Title: Dealing With It, Part Four
Fandom: HIMYM, Barney/Robin
Length: ~1,500 words for this section, 6,600 total so far
Rating: PG-13/R-ish for pregnancy angst
Spoilers: Not really. Set several years in the future with Barney and Robin in an established relationship that did not begin until a month or two before this takes place. I began this back at the beginning of season four, so it's now AU.
Summary: Robin gets pregnant and then unpregnant.
Disclaimer: If I owned HIMYM, Sven would have gotten the GNB commission. It breathes fire, Marshall!
AN: Remember this old thing? No, I thought not. It has literally been forever since I wrote part three. Expect the last part soon, though, because it took me *way* too long to get my voice back for this part and I really, really, really want to finish this (finally). For anyone who's joined the HIMYM love train since I last updated or for anyone who *was* around and actually cares enough to refresh their memory of what's gone before, here's part one, part two, and part three. For this part, it is important to remember that Marshall and Lily have been trying unsuccessfully to have a baby for some time and that the continued disappointments have been weighing on Lily.

Authors/Creators:

Fandom: HIMYM, Ted
Rating/Warnings: R for language like, WOAH, and for adult concepts. Spoilers for the season finale.
Disclaimer: HIMYM is not mine
Notes: So, in my new obsession with Star Trek, I ran across these hilarious character macros (words/images) (warnings: cursing and spoilers for the new ST movie) over at
ontd_startrek . Now, the HIMYM community does not seem to be into macros, but I realized that our beloved HIMYM cast MUST HAVE A PIECE OF THIS ACTION. So, I wrote up one for our favorite hopeless romantic and conned
roland44 into making it into a pretty picture for me because I lack image skillz. Mad love to Roland for getting on board and for improving on everything I did and for making this happen.

So, against all good sense and despite the fact that I have a million papers to grade and quite a bit of unfinished HIMYM fic to write, I am working on a fic for the new Star Trek. I really just need to cut myself off from all media before I loose my job and my sanity to another fandom. *sigh*
Anyway, as the new Star Trek fandom is *bloody, freakin huge* and therefore somewhat scary, I want to test out some bits in friendly territory. So, dear flist, please tell me what you think, be it "I love it" or "I hate it" or "I have no idea what the f*ck you're doing" or "Promethia, you ridiculous English major, get your head out of your ass and sell your Norton anthologies and stop writing this trippy, wanna-be literary crap." All feedback welcome.

Title: Quickie
Fandom: Star Trek (2009)
Characters/Pairings: Spock/Uhura
Rating: PG-13
Format & Word Count: double-drabble, dialogue, 200 words
Summary: See title. No spoilers beyond the pairing.
Author's Note: Utter fluff. Short and silly and written to get a plot bunny out of my head. My apologies to my flist; I know you want HIMYM. Work is still all-consuming at the moment. Normal service will resume mid-June when school's out. I miss you all.

So, the other day I was talking with an old friend and attempting to explain what I do with myself lately. She's an avid writer herself, so of course I had to tell her about my discovery of our little writers' community. I found myself brought up short, however, by an assumption I'm sure everyone here has had to deal with at some point: that the only reason to write fic is because you are lame.
And so I began ranting (in my head) that there are *plenty* of reasons to write fic besides the fact that I am lame. In fact, I bet that I could come up with 50 different reasons for writing fic . . .

Promethia is a feminization of Prometheus, one of my favorite of the Greek myths. Prometheus: fire-bringer, knowledge-bringer who defied the gods and was chained to a rock and tormented for eternity for taking pity on man, for giving man the power to live for himself. I'd like to think that, given the choice, he would do it all again. The personality theorist David Keirsey named my temperament "the Prometheans" for our love of knowledge, our disregard for authority, and our independence.
I use the username Promethia on several other sites, but when I signed up for LJ it was taken by a band that doesn't even use their account. I added "Tenk" because it was my avatar's last name in Second Life when I had to sign up for an account for a class I took on new media. Also, I hate adding numbers to usernames.

Title: Tied Up
Fandom: himym, B/R
Length: 3,252 words
Rating: R for artsy, metaphor-laden sex and emotional trauma
Spoilers: Through "The Possimpible"
Summary: Barney and Robin negotiate the very beginnings of a relationship.
Disclaimer: HIMYM is not mine :-(
AN: So, this is an epilogue to "The Great Picspam Caper," which I haven't actually finished yet, but you should be able to follow this anyway. My muse whispered in my ear that I should write a nice, funny, smutty bonus for the end of the Caper that might be suitable for entry in the Great Smut Duel. My muse then proceeded to tie me down for an entire weekend and torment this out of me. I am now scared of my muse, so if anyone else wants her, help yourself.
Previously in our story:
Everything: Lily tricks Barney and Robin into slow dancing and then takes pictures of Robin enjoying the chance to cuddle up.
The Great Picspam Caper, Part One: Lily, Marshall, and Ted kidnap Barney and Robin and tie them to chairs in the apartment. Lily reveals Barney's secret love and says some mean things about Robin.
The Great Picspam Caper, Part Two: Still not written. Lily picspams the captive Barney and Robin into admitting their love for each other.
Tied Up: Barney and Robin are left alone in the apartment to escape their bonds and decide how to proceed. A radical departure in tone from earlier parts--deal with it.
( Oh, I think you two will have more fun if we let you figure that out for yourselves. )

2) I have real work to do.
3) I was curious.
4) It seemed like a cool challenge to make all the songs work . . . somehow.

The Rules:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, IPod, etc.)
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For the first question, type the song that's playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button twice.
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...just type it in.

Summary: Robin is kidnapped . . . for her own good.

Title: Everything
Fandom: himym, B/R
Length: ~1,000 words
Rating: PG for unmitigated sentimentality. Parents strongly cautioned.
Spoilers: Through "The Possimpible"
Summary: Lily's got a plan.
AN: Three-way prompt response for the drabbleathon.
ninnui wanted dancing, with bonus points for Glenn Miller.
otempora42 wanted Lily to get fed up with Barney's holding back and decide to do something herself (ok, so she specifically said "drops hints," but I changed it a bit).
ryuno wanted non-specific fluff and broTP cuteness. Technically not a drabble because I am apparently incapable of keeping things to drabble lengths. The song is a real one done by the Glenn Miller Band, but I am having a horrid time finding a copy on the internets for y'all.

Title: Dealing With It, Part Three
Fandom: HIMYM, Barney/Robin
Length: ~1,600 words for this section, 5,300 total so far
Rating: PG-13/R-ish for pregnancy angst and sexuality
Spoilers: For all aired episodes. Set several years in the future. Slightly AU after "Not a Father's Day."
Summary: Robin gets pregnant and then unpregnant.
Disclaimer: If I owned HIMYM, the "Kokomo" bartending scene would have lasted the whole episode. Sadly, I do not.
AN: So, I owe everyone an apology for how *hideously* long it has been since I last updated this fic, especially since it's so jump-around-y. For anyone who still cares but forgets everything that's already happened, here's part one and part two. Either one or two parts left, depending, but I'm guessing two.

Andrew Wyeth is dead today. I cannot imagine that his passing—or anything I have to say on the subject—will be of much interest to anyone here, but I am writing this for myself because, although I live somewhere else now, Wyeth and I come from the same place. Or at least I imagine that we do.
